These are some absolutely glorious designs. I’m a cabinetmaker who is always surfing the Internet looking for something new and exciting, because when I do our bathrooms and kitchen, I do NOT want to do the same thing everyone else does. As yet I still have not figured out what I’m going to do, but one fine day I hope to have something wonderful to share with people on the Internet. One has to study the works of the past very closely and make many compromises to incorporate the classical forms and materials in a modern age.
Very few architects in this era have had the training offered by Universities prior to 1920 based on the Beaux Arts system so it is incumbent on anyone attempting a historical revival project to pay close attention to proportion, geometry, and materials.
Budgets are the baseline from which we design and build. It requires much more detailing and expensive craftsmanship and finishes to reproduce a French or Italian Renaissance building.
